When David's sister was diagnosed with terminal brain cancer, he
realized that people had a hard time dealing with the emotional
side of trauma. He embarked on a 5,000 mile bike ride over 6
weeks. David interviewed and connected people affected by
trauma. He gathered their stories into a book to help others be
better equipped to deal with the emotional side of trauma. David's
very challenging bike ride enabled him to see others' struggles and
also to ponder on his sister's loss. In addition to the book
providing a service, 100% of its net proceeds go to the cancer
focused charities chosen by the participants. He shares these
nuggets of life wisdom:
- let's strive to be in-tune with how others are feeling
- if you put your mind to something, you can do it
- we may not know what others are going through
- talk about it and ask questions
- take a concerted effort that we care by connecting with them
